海派甜心 Ep14 (Finale) Synopsis

Episode 13 Summary
I've not written Ep13, here's a summary to fill in the missing gap in the interim. In Ep13, Xuehai loses his memory and even found himself a new girlfriend. He and Baozhu were then kidnapped by Runfa who needed the ransom to pay his debts. While trying to stop Xuehai from escaping, Runfa hit Xuehai's head hard with a rock. This knocked back all of Xuehai's memory. However when Xuehai wakes up in hospital, he recognises everyone but feign ignorance towards Baozhu as he thought that it is better for Baozhu in Yanfeng's care. This left Baozhu saddened. Xuehai too was saddened and got drunk on the night before Baozhu's birthday. He dropped Baozhu an email...

Episode 14

Xuehai awakes in shock after reading what he had typed in his email to Baozhu.

宝珠姐，祝你生日快乐！在我被你抛弃之后的第四年，我终於又有机会亲自跟你说一声生日快乐... Baozhu, Happy Birthday! I finally had the chance to say this to you, 4 years later since I've been ditched by you.

Checking his pink panther watch that it's only 4am, Xuehai decides to try his luck. He hurriedly sneaks into Baozhu's home to delete the email while she's still asleep. He tries to unlock her laptop password, and is touched when he realizes the password was his birthday! Unknown to him, Baozhu had read the email much earlier, and was even secretly watching over his attempt to delete the email. It was then that she realizes that he is feigning memory loss. Her thoughts,

你这个白痴的惊世骇俗醜不拉叽香菇头，竟然敢假装失意不认得我，胆子很大嘛！You have the guts, how dare you feign memory loss in my face!

Next day at the store, Meijia (girl whom Dalang fell for during his memory loss) looks him up. Xuehai clears things up with Meijia, telling her that there is a difference between like and love. He can like many but loves only Baozhu and will not fall for anyone else. He gets back to the store and was informed that someone is looking for him. She is none other than Baozhu herself, who's back with a vengence.

Baozhu came on the pretext on buying a toilet bowl and asked for discount. This part is comical, as the scenes acted out are of each other's inner thoughts (Sorry it would be too lengthy to put in summary, but drop me a comment, i can translate for you). Baozhu found out the reason that Xuehai is not acknowledging her because he was under the impression that Baozhu has chosen Yanfeng and decided to go overseas with him. She deliberately provoked him by commenting how lovey dovey she is with Yanfeng. And while Xuehai was examining the toilet bowl on Baozhu's question, Baozhu activated the toilet bowl spray function at his face and feign ignorance. As an apologetic gesture, Baozhu offered to treat Xuehai to lunch.

Meantime, Dajie visits Runfa at the police station where he was detained for kidnapping Xuehai. She wrapped up matters with Runfa. Runfa asks for her forgiveness, but Dajie was unable to as his mistake was too grave to have kidnapped Xuehai whom she treats as a precious gem.

At the restaurant, Baozhu was reminded of Dalang's favourite food. She orders the same even though Xuehai did not, "我要一份龙虾鹅肝、鹅肝要肥一点。还要一份肋眼牛排、牛排要三分熟。 前菜我要松露洋芋泥、甜点来个火焰蛋糕。" Xuehai looks at Baozhu intently, he was touched that she still remembers what he likes. When questioned, he excuses himself by saying that he doesn't like those food anymore.

When the birthday cake was served, Xuehai was reminiscent of his intended proposal towards Baozhu 4 years ago. He wore a faint smile while having the flashback, yet simply continues his act of memory loss and apologises for not knowing it was Baozhu's birthday earlier. Nonetheless, Baozhu requested for him to sing a birthday song for her. Both of them were deeply touched in their hearts just thinking of past memories, but held back tears. Just as they were about to part, Baozhu made another last request - for Xuehai to set off fireworks while she celebrates her birthday with Yanfeng, and arranges for him to meet at the graffiti wall.

Xuehai's thoughts (with a sad facial expression): Why does Baozhu want to bring Yanfeng here? I thought this place belongs to just us.
Baozhu's thoughts: You silly mushroom head, you actually put in effort to prepare despite me telling you that it's for my date with Yanfeng. Are you an idiot?
Baozhu: Xuehai!
Xuehai jumped with a fright.
Xuehai: Where's He Yanfeng?
Baozhu: I knew it all, you have not forgotten about me. You don't have to pretend, if you had forgotten about me and the memories we shared, how would you know that this place belongs to us only?
Xuehai knows that he is unable to deceive Baozhu further and attempted to run away, but is stopped by Baozhu. Baozhu clutches the ring in her hands and tossed it over to Xuehai.
Baozhu: You've tricked me, so have I. We're now quits. It's my birthday today. Exactly 4 years ago, I met with an accident and because of that we had many misunderstandings in between. Tonight, let's return to 4 years ago and find back our happiness. LIN DALANG, will you marry me?
Xuehai: I DO!!!

And they kissed, with fireworks set off in the skies.

At the wedding... Xuehai and Baozhu were about to take their wedding vows, when they faced 3 objections.
Miya: Baozhu-jie, it's your last chance. Aren't you going to consider Yanfeng?
Yanfeng: I object Baozhu marrying Xuehai. (Everyone was shocked at this.) Because I hope it's the kind and innocent Lin Dalang that she marries. Dalang, do you remember what I once said? (Dalang nods, and Yanfeng personally hands Baozhu to Dalang.) Baozhu is now yours. Like Miya said, if you ever mistreat Baozhu, you're dead!
Dajie: Baozhu, if you bully our Ah-hai I can't bother. But if you hurt our Ah-hai, I won't be able to bear with it. So I hope you'll love him well, and the same goes for Ah-hai that he'll dote on you. And... Heh (wry smile) I'm done.
Pastor: I'd better announce direct (meaning not to ask if anyone else objects). I hearby announce Xuehai and Chen Baozhu officially husband and wife.


ps: Just finished the watching the finale. I didn't quite like the ending, even though it puts a nice wrap to the drama. The emotional build-up was definitely missing, 30mins being too short. And the spin-off in Ep13 was uncalled for too. Also, with his mushroom head, even I was hesitant whether to Xiaozhu is Dalang or Xuehai while typing out the synopsis. Why, why didn't they bring the handsome and cool Xuehai back during the wedding!!! It's frustrating when the story had such a good build-up, good actors yet a mediocre end.
