Mayday 五月天《追夢3DNA》

This is my 3rd time watching.

Though all watched in Singapore, all 3 DNA concerts are slightly different - the first was at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the second at the National Stadium and now in cinema! Honestly, I might not have watched a third if there was not a plot to the whole 3D concert movie tout.

Movie after thoughts - Certainly there's the kick that "front row seats" come so cheaply, but this will never replace the real deal LIVE. The movie is done with 3 short skits of Mayday fans from different phases of life coming together for their Shanghai concert. There were some comical moments and cameo appearances by Mayday themselves in the movie segments; and I liked how they rounded up the first and last story by linking them together - of the little girl in the first skit who lost her tickets and the man in the last skit (who saved up to watch Mayday's concert on behalf of his late sister) who saw her by chance, handed his tickets over to her.

When all's put together however, unless you're a very ardent fan, the appeal of a 3D concert movies doesn't hold mainly due to the execution of the 3D concert on film. While there were a couple of scenes that I thought made good with 3D like the falling of potpourri and selected close ups on the individual band members; other times like the 3D effect of the light sticks held by fans being the fore-screen or the fast panning of the cameras can be rather distracting. Perhaps if they could enhance the 3D techniques or effects to make the concert come more alive and pop up more at the audience, then I would consider watching one again.

What is your motivation in watching 3D concert movies?
